Cala Luna: one of the 10 best beaches in Sardinia
Cala Luna, located on the east coast of Sardinia, is a beach famous for its natural beauty and its crystal clear water and is today considered one of the most beautiful beaches of our fantastic Sardinia. The beach is about a kilometer and a half long and is surrounded by high limestone cliffs, which create a spectacular landscape.
The name "Cala Luna" means "cove of the moon" in Italian, and was given to the beach due to the crescent shape of the bay and the moonlight reflecting off the crystal clear water at night. The beach has also been the setting for several film productions, including Lina Wertmuller's 'The Swept Away' and Guy Ritchie's 'Swept Away'.
This wonderful beach can only be reached by sea or on foot via a path that starts from the nearby Cala Fuili. The path offers a panoramic view of the Gulf of Orosei and the surrounding cliffs. On the way, you can admire the local flora and fauna, including the sea lily and the golden eagle.
The beach is very popular with tourists during the summer season, but it is still possible to enjoy some tranquility by visiting it out of season. Furthermore, there are several activities that you can practice in Cala Luna, such as snorkelling, kayaking and trekking.
It is also famous for the Grotta del Bue Marino, a large cave located on the north side of the cove. The cave was named after the walruses that once lived there.
Today, the cave is an important archaeological and paleontological site, where bones of prehistoric animals and traces of human settlements dating back to the Bronze Age have been found.
Furthermore, Cala Luna is surrounded by other beaches and bays, such as Cala Mariolu and Cala Goloritzè, which offer equally spectacular landscapes and interesting activities to practice.
In summary, Cala Luna is one of the most beautiful and fascinating beaches in Sardinia, with a unique history and natural beauty. An ideal destination for those seeking a break from everyday life and want to immerse themselves in the nature and beauty of the Mediterranean for their holidays.
